Indigenous comedian, Ryan McMahon,  takes us on his personal journey to the Niagara region at the Fort Erie Native Friendship Centre where he shares stories, ideas and laughter with the  Indigenous community.

Teepee or not Teepee was intended to be a series of episodes in which we explore some of the silly questions Indigenous people are asked by non-indigenous Canadians. What began as a quest for funny questions evolved into a five part series that shows the Indigenous presence that resides within the Niagara Region of Ontario. Our host Ryan McMahon is an Indigenous comedian who guides us through our journey with laughter and a good mind. Teepee or not Teepee? That is the question.

Ryan McMahon is an Anishinaabe comedian, writer, actor and media maker based out of Treaty #1 territory (Winnipeg, MB). McMahon holds a Theatre degree from the University of Minnesota & is a graduate of the prestigious Second City Conservatory (Toronto).

Ryan’s storytelling comedy style is fast paced, loose & irreverent as he explores the good, the bad & the ugly between Indian Country & the mainstream.

McMahon has made a name for himself as a fearless, forward thinking & tireless performer. Since 2010, McMahon has recorded two National comedy specials (Ryan McMahon – UnReserved (CBC TV, 2012), Red Man Laughing (CBC Radio 1,2014), three featured spots for CBC TV & the Winnipeg Comedy Festival (Turtle Island Too, 2010), Hystereotypes Gala (2011), Rest & Relaxation Gala (2014), and has recorded two standup comedy albums, one, The Shittiest Warrior, spent 82 weeks atop the worldwide iTunes comedy charts and was named a “2013 Top Comedy Album” on iTunes.

Ryan is also the creator of a number of successful digital media projects. He’s the host of the Red Man Laughing podcast (currently in Season 5), he’s building the world’s ONLY Indigenous Podcast Network, Indian & Cowboy, and his new project, Stories From The Land, just received the prestigious 2016 Canada Council Reconciliation Grant.
